Rebel Gujjar leaders call for boycot
AJMER: A struggle for leadership within the Gujjars over reservation agitation has reached a crescendo with a faction of rebels announcing their boycott of the mahapanchayat called by their leader Col Kirori Singh Bainsla in Bayana on January 13.
Rebel leaders, including expelled BJP MLA Prahland Gunjal, Attar Singh Badana MLA and Rejendra Bidhuri termed Col Bainsla a 'traitor' at a press conference, and called for the boycott of the mahapanchayat at Bayana.
These leaders claimed Col Bainsla was incapable of leading the reservation agitation and should quit as the leader of the movement.
They alleged that Col Bainsla called the mahapanchayat at the instance of the state government. They asked the people of the community to boycott the mahapanchayat as it was that of 'Jaichand' (traitor).
Col Bainsla had on Thursday announced that the leadership of the Gujjar reservation agitation and future course of action, including the rebel Gujjar leaders sponsored 'mahapadav' (seige) at Jaipur on January 21, would be decided at the mahapanchayt at Bayana.
The rebel leaders pointed out that Col Biansla himself had admitted after the Chopra commiteee report was made public that he was unable to lead the agitation and outmaneuvered by the government, they pointed out.

BAYANA: A Gurjar meet on Sunday hailed the Rajasthan government's proposal to provide four-six per cent reservation to the community under the denotified caste category but said the demand for ST quota status will remain.
A national mahapanchayat of the Gurjar Arakashan Sangarsh Samiti held at Nagla-Gyani, 30 km from Bayana, welcomed Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje's proposal made on Saturday to write to the Centre recommending "denotified caste quota" benefit to Gurjars and two other primitive castes - Ghumantu and Charvaha.
"But we will continue our agitation for ST status," Kirorisingh Bainsla, Samiti patron told the mahapanchayat.
"As the chief minister has promised to make the proposal a cabinet decision before sending it to the Centre, we should wait for it," he said.
Bainsla, however, asked the community to avoid any confrontation or launch agitations.
But despite Bainsla's denial, scores of local Gurjar leaders jumped on the dias announcing a one-sided decision to hold a "chakka jam" on the Jaipur-Agra highway on January 21 and another faction, led by BJP rebels Atar Singh Bhadana and Prahalad Gunjal convening a massive rally in Jaipur.
The mahapanchayat was addressed by a number of leaders including Sukhbeer Singh Jaunpuria, Ramveer Singh Vidhuri, Surendra Singh, and Balveer Singh Gurjar.
Meanwhile in Jaipur, the Gurjar Action Committee rejected Raje's proposal saying it would stick to the ST status demand only.
Another Gurjar group led by Ramgopal Guard also hailed Raje's proposal saying it would be fruitful as long as the Centre decides on the ST quota status.

BAYANA (Rajasthan), JANuary 13: Faced with opposition from the community which is no longer keen to see him as its sole leader, Colonel Kirori Singh Bainsla is trying to take steps to defend himself and regain the confidence of the Gurjjar Aarakshan Samiti. At the Gurjjar Mahapanchayat on Sunday — organised by leaders of the community from Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan — people voiced their resentment against Bainsla’s “soft stand on the issue of reservation”.

Even as Bainsla unveiled the ‘community flag’, leaders from Rajasthan said, “he is sold out to the Vasundhara Raje Government”. Close to one lakh people had gathered at Nagla Gyani village here and a unanimous decision was reached to oppose the move to accept 6 per cent reservation offered by the Raje Government.
The anti-Bainsla faction shouted slogans against him and called him a “traitor”. The crowd was silenced only after Bainsla announced a chakka jam in Jaipur on January 21. As people tried to climb on to the stage and hurled abuses at him, Bainsla said, “Raje Government has betrayed us and we will take our revenge.”
Leaders said delaying the fight for the ST status and politicising the issue will harm the image of the Samiti. Raj Kumar Bhati, leader of the Janmorcha Party from Uttar Pradesh, said, “The fight for reservations has to be taken ahead, with or without Bainsla.” “We were expecting the announcement of a political party on Sunday,” Jaiveer Kasana, a Gurjjar leader from Uttar Pradesh said.
Meanwhile, Bainsla defended himself. “The announcements will be made in Delhi. People’s expectations are high and they expect me to turn things over instantly. That’s not possible,” he said.
Sources in the party said that there is pressure on Bainsla to hold bigger processions to reiterate the demand for ST status for the community. One of the immediate options is to gherao the Parliament on January 29, a leader said.

Bayana, Bharatpur, Jan 13 (UNI) Gujjar Arakshan Sangarsh Samiti convenor Col Kirori Singh Bainsla today rejected the proposal for reservation for Gujjars under a special category of 'nomadic and pastoral tribe' and called for blocade of the NH-11 on January 21.
The decision was announced at a Mahapanchayt of the Gujjars held at Bayana in Bharatpur. Col Bainsla said ''the Gujjars will not accept any thing less than inclusion of the community in the Sheduled Tribe'' He said Gujjars will start the next phase of agitation with a blockade of the Agra-Jaipur National Highway No- 11 on Janaury 21 at Maulani Bridge in Bharatpur district.
The Government had mooted a proposal for a four to six per cent reservation for the Gujjars under a special category of a ''Denotified Tribe'' at a meeting of the Gujjar leaders belonging to the BJP as their demand for ST status could not be fulfilled in the present situation. But the proposal was shot down by Baisnla.
The call for blockade of the NH-11 on January 21 coincides with the rebel Gujjar organisation Samyukt Gujjar Arakshan Sangarsh Samiti's 'mahapadav' (seige) in Jaipur.
